Trying to set a path to success, carrying both the elements is the latest Ranveer Singh starrer, Dhurandhar. While it desperately tries to cash in on every element that can attract the audience, its unconventional approach makes it a failed opportunity to excite as a great entertainer. What is the Dhurandhar Plot about?
After the IC-814 airplane hijacking in 1999 and the attack on the Indian Parliament, the chief of India’s Intelligence Bureau, Ajay Sanyal (R. Madhavan), hatches a plan to infiltrate and dismantle a terrorist network operating from Pakistan. He recruits a 20-year-old criminal, Jaskirat Singh (Ranveer Singh), from Punjab and sends him to Pakistan for the operation in 2002 under the name Hamza Ali Mazari.
In Lyari, Karachi, Hamza starts working at a juice shop. The area is ruled by two opposing gangsters, Babu Dakait and Rehman Balochi, aka Rehman Dakait (Akshaye Khanna). In one instance, Hamza saves Rehman’s elder son from an attack by Babu Dakait, which gains him the position of a core member of Rehman’s gang.
Rehman is very close to a local politician, Jamali (Rakesh Bedi), who is jealous of Rehman’s hold in Lyari. Jamali decides to bring back the suspended police officer Chaudhary Aslam (Sanjay Dutt) to keep Rehman in check. At the same time, Rehman is closely connected to Major Iqbal (Arjun Rampal) from ISI. While Rehman and Major Iqbal plan to attack India, all of which is exposed to Hamza, who is also in love with Jamali’s daughter Yalina (Sara Arjun).
This story is divided into eight different chapters throughout the film: The Price of Peace, Stranger in the Land of Shadows, The Bastard King of Lyari, Bullets and Roses, The Jinn, The Devil’s Guardian, The Butterfly Effect, and Et Tu Brutus.

What Works for Dhurandhar?
Dhurandhar film 2025 works well, not as a total mass entertainer, but as a fearless portrayal of the depths of geopolitics in the 1990s and 2000s. The one factor you can predict the film will excel at on the Dhurandhar movie release date, something it also succeeds in, is the performances of the leads.
Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar performance may be seen as a bit restricted, but that’s the character demand, which the actor fulfils through his subtlety. R. Madhavan successfully carries the sharp and complex personality of IB Chief Ajay Sanyal. Akshaye Khanna nails his role as the King of Lyari, Rahman Dakait, with perfection. Arjun Rampal shows up in perfect form, diligently carrying the haunting portrayal of an ISI agent.
Sanjay Dutt carries a personality that speaks “mass,” which he usually does, fitting into the character of ‘The Jinn’ Chaudhary Aslam. Sara Arjun doesn’t have much to do as the lead actress of such a film, but she performs great anyway. While the six lead the movie, Rakesh Bedi accompanies them to enhance the grittiness and dramatic aura of the film. When you analyse the characters as well as their performances, you realise they are all figures you can neither like nor hate but still be curious about their actions.
While Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar film direction makes the film gripping throughout the run time, the screenplay is inconsistently entertaining. It starts well in the first half. After the interval, the second half proves better than the first, with way more entertaining moments. The violence and brutality, which are one audience-pulling factor of the movie, are way more hard-hitting and traumatising in the film than in the trailer.
Technically, the film is made with real depth that shows even in the bullet marks in the action scene. The colour palette and cinematography make the film look really rich. The addition of real-life conversations between the masterminds of 26/11 makes the film highly impactful, as it is actually the highlight of the movie.
When the Dhurandhar videos of the announcement were released, the film was expected to have a soundtrack that would offer a banger theatre experience, and it succeeds. Shashwat Sachdev’s BGM as well as two of Hanumankind’s tracks massively elevate the film-watching experience in nearly all of the scenes, whether they be driven by action, thrills, or drama.

What Does Not Work in the Dhurandhar Film?
Among the demerits of watching Dhurandhar is that you have to endure several boring moments throughout the movie. While the first half is entirely devoted to introducing and setting up the characters, they fail to connect with the audience. These boring moments are seen more in the first half and less in the second half.
As Dhurandhar is an A-rated movie, you obviously expect tons of curses and gruesome violence from it. Both of them feel forced at several moments. Several unnecessary things like this happen in the movie throughout, which makes it feel very long. 15-20 minutes could have been easily trimmed to make the watching experience much better.
Given the cliffhanger of the Dhurandhar 2025 film, does the prospect of waiting for Dhurandar Part 2, titled Revenge, and watching it anyhow on Eid 2026 excite you? However, you can still look forward to the sequel and expect something interesting.
How is the Music of Dhurandhar?
The music of Dhurandhar is like the blood in a body that keeps on flowing to keep the body, i.e., the film, alive. Whether it be the Dhurandhar title track, Ishq Jalakar-Karvaan, Ez-Ez, or any remixes like Ramba Ho or Run Down The City-Monica, they all make the film-watching experience feel like a blast.
Final Take on Dhurandhar
As for the overall Dhurandhar Ranveer Singh review, it is a film that had the potential to be a much better entertainer. However, on the Dhurandhar release date, the movie fails to stand up to your expectations by being slow and boring in several parts. Yet, Dhurandhar is a proper spy thriller that lacks larger-than-life elements or masala, yet it is true to its genre and honest in its making, as the movie does not mince its words. Hence, in totality, Dhurandhar stands as just a decent film.

The Dhurandhar advance booking ended with the film selling 121K tickets in Indian national chains (PVR Inox and Cinepolis) for Day 1, lower than Sikandar, War 2, and Baaghi 4. This report and advance booking results are very poor for a film of its stature.
The Dhurandhar OTT release date is 30 January 2026 on Netflix, 8 weeks or 56 days after its theatrical release.
Ranver Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, and Sara Arjun play the lead roles in Dhurandhar.
On its first day, Dhurandhar collected Rs 24 crore India nett at the box office, supported by inorganic bookings. Organically, the real figure of Dhurandhar shows an opening of Rs 17 crore India nett and Rs 36.42 crore worldwide gross.
