Metro in Dino (2025) released on 4th July 2025 and it opened with a mixed response. The media saw the film before Metro in dino release date as the makers had planned premiers for critics and there was appreciation for Metro In Dino Music and the direction by a few and a few criticised it for its big runtime and hence the response from the media screening is also mixed. Anurag Basu’s Craft of using the music

Bollywood or Hindi cinema from the very beginning is known for its music. Back in those days, we used to have small budget films but the songs used to be really expensive which shows the demand around music in a film. While today, very few filmmakers or production houses actually take keen interest in music, it is Metro In Dino. Director Anurag Basu who knows how to use the songs in a film. Metro In Dino has a few scenes that add no value to the film in totality but it is Director Anurag Basu’s skill of integrating the music into the film’s narrative that makes those scenes valuable. 
While this is the positive aspect, the downside is that Anurag Basu’s Metro In Dino does not have a very strong album and if you compare it with it’s prequel Life in a Metro, the level drops further.

What Works in Metro… In Dino

While the assets of the film did not work that much, the film delivers what Metro In Dino official trailer had promised which means it’s the same celebration of love, longing and loss. The performances are good and some are extraordinary. While the cast of metro in dino has done a good job, it is Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Anupam Kher & Neena Gupta who stand out. Actually, it is also about the writing of their characters and the situation. Their stories are better as they’re humorous, emotional and also sensitive. 
The background score is effective and the cinematography is good. It is effective in bringing out the moments of love, loneliness, rage and enhancing the relatability of the script. Metro In Dino trailer was pretty straightforward in its narrative and so is the film. The film has a lot of humour and major chunks are actually funny thanks to Pankaj Tripathi and Konkona Sen Sharma.

The Shortcomings in Metro… In Dino

Metro In Dino has a huge runtime and this is why most of the things come across as boring. The second half in particular is stretched and feels too forced. While the emotions are there throughout, it is not even close to Life in a Metro, the prequel. The songs are also not as meaningful but as mentioned, Anurag Basu’s way of using the music has helped the film in a huge way. The inconsistency in storytelling is noticeable because of the slow pace. Few performances are poor for example Sara Ali Khan and the writing of a few tracks are not so good which impacts the merit of the film in totality. A sharper edit or better screenwriting in totality would have made the same film a lot better.

To sum it up, Metro In Dino is a decent film with not much to shout about. The film has no element to pull audience to the big screens considering a massive ₹ 100 crore plus budget is at hand. Also, the film has an OTT feel to it and hence May not work that well at the box office. The opening is very poor considering the huge star cast and the big names involved.
