In 2025, many filmmakers tried to jump on the sequel bandwagon to cash in on successful films but the majority of them fell flat. However, many such failures have not taught Bollywood a lesson, as a 3 Idiots sequel is currently being planned by the makers of the original but here’s the catch – the sequel will be titled 4 Idiots and will introduce a new leading character

Who is in the Cast and Crew of 4 Idiots?

The makers of 3 Idiots are finally moving ahead with a sequel titled 4 Idiots, with the cast of the 2009 movie, Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, and Kareena Kapoor Khan, returning to star in this movie along with a fourth idiot whose casting is currently going on. Rajkumar Hirani will also return as the director and would start filming it in 2026. Reports from December 2025 have confirmed that director Rajkumar Hirani has locked the script.

Aamir Khan’s new movie 3 Idiots sequel will be produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra along with Rajkumar Hirani and Khan himself. The tentative title has led to assumptions that may be Fourth Idiots is the new character, which is true. The leading cast would consist of a fourth actor who has currently not been locked but whenever he is signed, he would play a new character in the movie.

As per our sources about 4 Idiots, the film would feature a fresh storyline not connected to the prequel. Rather, this sequel would carry the flavors of the cult classic comedy drama 3 Idiots. This approach of making a sequel is expected to be taken just as Rajkumar Hirani did with Lage Raho Munna Bhai.

After the underperformance of Dunki, Rajkumar Hirani has spent a lot of time working on a good project. In this while, he has juggled between the Dadasaheb Phalke biopic, Munna Bhai 3, and now this 3 Idiots sequel titled 4 Idiots. In the meantime, he has also produced a web series marking the debut of his son, Vir Hirani, which also stars Vikrant Massey and Arshad Warsi. 

Besides 4 Idiots, Aamir Khan is also in talks with Lokesh Kanagaraj to star as a lead in one of the director’s upcoming films after his cameo in Coolie.
