The Varanasi story is based on an asteroid strike which is approaching Earth to erase humanity. Mahesh Babu takes up the role of time-travelling in different eras, from the Satya Yuga to the Kali Yuga, to find the solution to stopping the asteroid.
The lead actress, Priyanka Chopra, talked about the Varanasi story and said, “It’s not like you sit in a machine and travel like Back to the Future. But we move from 7200 BCE to 2027, travelling across worlds and realms in which our characters exist. That’s what makes it really interesting. So yes, it is a time-travel movie.”
As per what is known about the movie, it will be shot on all seven continents of the world. Recently, the full Varanasi cast, with director S.S. Rajamouli, completed the Georgia shooting schedule of the film. Currently, the team from Varanasi is shooting the film in Antarctica, making it the first Indian film to be shot in Antarctica.
In this film, Mahesh Babu will play Rudra, the leading protagonist, while Prithviraj Sukumaran plays Kumbha, the leading antagonist.
