Box Office has always been unpredictable but the Indian box office this year has been surprising the trade every month in a good way and in a bad way too. Films like Mahavatar Narsimha, Saiyaara and Lokah are the biggest surprises in a positive way while the year also saw some of the biggest disappointments in the form of War 2, Game Changer, Hari Hara Veera Mallu etc.
Chhaava held its position since February as 2025 Highest Grossing Movie but slowly Kantara Chapter 1 emerged as a competitor and is marching towards the top most position. If 2025 Indian Movie Collection is taken into consideration, it may not be as massive as 2023 or 2024 as we didn’t see a Rs 1000 crore grosser this year but we saw miracles like Mahavatar Narsimha becoming the first Rs 100 crore animated film of India despite being made on a very low budget, Saiyaara being a new comer film smashing records, Lokah becoming the first Rs 300 crore grosser for Malayalam Cinema etc.
Inside Box Office (IBO) has compiled a 2025 Box Office Collection report where we will be covering all the Top Grossers of Indian Cinema in the year 2025. The figures are sourced from IBO Tracking which is regarded as one of India’s most comprehensive box office tracking tool.

An Analysis of the Top 10 Grossers of 2025 by Inside Box Office (IBO)
The first month of the year was carried out by Pushpa 2 The Rule and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani re-release. The first month of 2025 saw one of the biggest disasters of Indian cinema in the name of Game Changer. The Ram Charan starrer was a rare film that was loss making. To ruin this further, the makers released a poster claiming that the film earned Rs 186 crore on Day 1 when in reality, the lifetime collection was less than the Day 1 poster. This embarrassing situation has put Ram Charan in bad light with a lot of negativities. All the hopes are now pinned on the actor’s next Peddi, which will also tank at the North Box Office unless the trailer or songs click really well.
In February, Vicky Kaushal arrived with All Time Blockbuster Chhaava which is the highest grosser even now, but Kantara Chapter 1 will overtake it by the end of its run and be at the top. In the last 10 years, only 2023,2020 and 2016 have been able to see Bollywood films take the top spot namely Jawan, Tanhaji and Dangal.
2025 Indian Box Office would’ve seen a Bollywood topper but Kantara Chapter 1 entered the race with full force. 2023 was star driven while 2020 was pandemic driven as there were no major releases in that year. 2016 was Dangal which worked on content as the opening weekend wasn’t very strong. 2019 is arguable as Avengers End Game did the most business but War is considered just because it is an Indian film.
The least rated film in the top 10 list is They Call Him Og which also closed as a HIT. This makes it star driven as Pawan Kalyan is the biggest star in the Tollywood home states. War 2 flopped big time and no one had expected this but the pre-release hype faded away due to poor assets. Coolie emerged Average due to big opening weekend and has made no money for its makers.
On the whole, only four films have crossed the Rs 500 crore and the remaining period of 2025 does not look promising in any way.
