Golmaal 5 Announcement: Akshay Kumar Joins Ajay Devgn in a Unique Look

Golmaal is one of the most successful comedy film franchises of India. More than 8 years after the release of Golmaal Again, director Rohit Shetty has decided to continue the series with Golmaal 5, while also taking the franchise to its highest level till now. Golmaal 5 announcement was made first by Akshay Kumar on March 14, on the occasion of director Rohit Shetty’s 52nd birthday, with a special video asset featuring the male leads of Golmaal 5. This cast is led by Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar in the film.

Who is in the Golmaal 5 Cast?

The biggest surprise you get from the Golmaal 5 announcement is the cast of the film. The Golmaal 5 cast features the gang of Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Khemu, and Tusshar Kapoor. Alongside them, Sharman Joshi returns to the franchise nearly 19 years after he played one of the leads in Golmaal.

Besides the six leading protagonists, Akshay Kumar joins cast of Rohit Shetty’s “Golmaal 5” as the leading antagonist and that too in an evil bald look, the first time in his career, perfect to play a gangster. The last time he played a gangster was Bachchhan Paandey, which failed, but he returns to a similar avatar once again.

More than Akshay Kumar, it is Sharman Joshi’s return that excites the most since he is one of the major factors behind why Golmaal (2007) became a memorable film, even though he disappeared for the later 3 sequels of the film due to reasons unknown.

While the Golmaal 5 cast features a total of seven male leads, Priyamani will be joining as the female lead, taking the baton from Parineeti Chopra after Kareena Kapoor Khan and Rimi Sen.

Golmaal 5 Release Date

The Golmaal 5 release date 2026 is currently not confirmed, as the shooting for the film has started the same day as its announcement. However, it is believed to be a certainty that Golmaal 5 will not be released in 2026. Rather, the film will release only in 2027.

Additionally, Golmaal 5 upcoming film will be ready only after the release of Maria IPS, which is Rohit Shetty’s next film, a cop action drama led by John Abraham. 

Besides, the Golmaal 5 shooting began in Mumbai on March 14, 2026, the same date as its announcement.

The Box Office Performance of Golmaal Franchise

Golmaal: Fun Unlimited was released in 2007 to positive reviews. The film became a hit at the box office with an Indian box office collection of Rs 29.25 crore nett. Its success was followed by the sequel, Golmaal Returns (2008), which got a hit verdict again at a box office collection of Rs 51 crore India nett.

The franchise reached a new level of popularity with Golmaal 3 (2010), a multistarrer which became the first blockbuster of the franchise with a collection of Rs 108 crore India nett. This movie gained commercial as well as critical success. 

However, the franchise took a 7-year-long break after this blockbuster and continued with Golmaal Again (2017), the highest grossing film of this franchise having a blockbuster verdict at a box office collection of Rs 205 crore India nett. Additionally, this Ajay Devgn-led horror comedy was also the last Diwali release of Bollywood to get a blockbuster verdict.

Golmaal 5 Plot

Initially, Akshay Kumar’s next film Golmaal 5 was rumoured to be an adaptation of Do Aur Do Paanch (1980), starring Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor. However, this rumour was later denied by the team of Golmaal 5. 

As per the latest reports, the Golmaal 5 plot will show a hidden treasure hunt narrative with several comical, chaotic quests, like the Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. This plot will be very different from the plots of the earlier four installments of the franchise, making the movie an adventure comedy. In this plot, Akshay Kumar would play the Golmaal 5 villain and also the main force against the other six male leads.

Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn collaborated for the sixth time in Golmaal 5 after Singham Again, their last collaboration helmed by Rohit Shetty, turned out to be a failure. While their reunion in such a multistarrer is exciting for the fans, one thing which is not exciting for the fans is the dull phase Rohit Shetty is currently going through, as he has delivered back-to-back duds in the form of Cirkus, Indian Police Force, and Singham Again.
