There have been many Bollywood movies based on real-life events, mainly from Indian politics and important days of history. Many times, movies are made on known events, while on several instances, they are made to shed light on very lesser-known ones. One such movie was the 2022 release The Kashmir Files, directed by Vivek Agnihotri, which ran with a huge controversy surrounding it. On September 5, 2025, Vivek Agnihotri released a new drama film, The Bengal Files.
The Bengal Files stars Darshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Simrat Kaur, Anupam Kher, Saswata Chatterjee, Rajesh Khera, Puneet Issar, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, and others in its lead star cast. It was earlier titled The Delhi Files but later changed to its present name.
The Bengal Files is made with the intention of introducing the audience to the Hindu-Muslim communal riots in Bengal during the pre-independence era of India, i.e., in the 1940s. Ultimately, it led to the re-telling of Direct Action Day, also called the 1946 Great Calcutta Killings. As the controversy for The Kashmir Files was based on the Hindu-Muslim communal tensions in Kashmir from a few decades ago, the same is the case with The Bengal Files.
The Bengal Files was supported by huge controversy too, as its trailer launch as well as the film release faced many hurdles in West Bengal. While the team of this movie tried to get it screened in theaters in West Bengal, the efforts ultimately didn’t work in their favour. Besides this controversy, all the chatter surrounding the movie was similar to The Kashmir Files, i.e., in favour of the film’s success. Even the teaser and trailer of the movie gained a good response critically.

The Bengal Files Advance Booking Details

The full-fledged advance booking for The Bengal Files began on September 2 in India, 3 days before its release. The Bengal Files Advance Booking Day 1 showed barely any excitement for the release of this period political drama. As for The Bengal Files First Day Advance Booking, the total pre-sales stood at only 11,000 tickets sold in national chains (PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis). This total is highly disappointing, especially when compared to The Kashmir Files, whose pre-sales were much higher on a much lower number of screens and shows.

The Bengal Files Box Office Day 1

The Bengal Files started its box office run on a very poor note as it collected only Rs 1.25 crore India nett at the box office. This opening arised majorly due to no pre-release hype.

The Bengal Files Opening Weekend Details

In its opening weekend, the domestic box office collection of The Bengal Files stood at Rs 5.15 crore India nett at the box office. The mixed reviews of the film did help the film in showing a minor growth over its first three days but still, the ending total of its 3-day indicated towards disastrous results.

The Bengal Files Overseas Details

The Bengal Files was never an overseas friendly film and it clearly shows in the film’s poor box office collection that has come from international territories. On Day 1, The Bengal Files collected only $46.73K (Rs 41.21 lacs) gross overseas. This poor collection continued over the film’s opening weekend, giving the film an opening 3-day weekend total of $159.28K (Rs 1.40 crore) gross.

Prediction For The Bengal Files

The Bengal Files is made on a budget of Rs 35 crore approx, higher than The Kashmir Files, but the success of this movie is going to be a tougher task too. The pre-release condition of this movie is very poor, enough to disappoint those who were expecting too much from the film commercially. The Day 1 figures, as indicated by The Bengal Files Pre Booking Collection, are aiming towards disastrous results. If the film does not receive extremely positive reviews, it would mean the film is on the brink of failure.

The Bengal Files Box Office India Collection

As of the opening day, The Bengal Files’s day 1 collection stood at Rs 1.25 crore India nett. As the majority of The Bengal Files reviews show a mixed response for the movie, the film has turned out to be average critically but is disappointing commercially.
Considering the budget, collection, and hype, The Bengal Files Day Wise Collection Report is expected to keep performing on a very low level and get overtaken by the competing Baaghi 4.
