YRF’s Spy Universe is one of the first cinematic universes of India, not to forget one of the highest-grossing Indian franchises too. One of the most memorable movies of this universe is War, a large scale action thriller directed by Siddharth Anand that brought together Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, two of the most loved action heroes of Bollywood of that time. In 2025, the film has got a sequel in the form of War 2 2025, this time bringing two forces from different industries, Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR along with Kiara Advani, Ashutosh Rana, and Anil Kapoor.

The baton of helming this sequel has been passed on to director Ayan Mukerji coming after Brahmastra. War 2 is the sixth movie of YRF’s Spy Universe releasing after the underperformance of Salman Khan’s Tiger 3. While the star cast and franchise power of War 2 made it one of the most anticipated Indian movies of 2025, this anticipation did severely deteriorate as the marketing began and the film neared its release.

After the release of the War 2 teaser, the film was perceived very negatively for its typical template-like content that the universe has followed for a long time. The absence of Tiger Shroff was inevitable but Jr. NTR’s presence against Hrithik Roshan was not received positively either. Aavan Jaavan was received well but was not any huge chartbuster while the dance number Janaab-E-Aali was saved to watch in theaters. Even the 35 seconds long teaser of that song was not received very well.

Overall, the film faced a mess up due to poor marketing and pre-release assets. Due to disappointing assets, what was deemed as one of the most awaited Indian movies of 2025 ended up being ignored by many before its release. Even the War 2 trailer, despite presenting a much more exciting side of the film than the teaser, failed to develop much hype. 

The full-fledged War 2 advance booking began on 12th August in India, just 2 days before release. In India as well as overseas markets, War 2 first day advance booking report failed to ignite much hope at the box office as its poor assets had already done the damage. Additionally, this pan-India offering also faced tough competition from Rajinikanth’s Coolie in overseas markets. As of the final War 2 advance booking, the film sold over 154,000 tickets with its Hindi version in Indian national chains.

Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR starrer War 2 is made at a budget of Rs 400 crore approx. The pre-release condition of this spy universe film looks poor. However, an action thriller made on such a large scale can easily attract audiences towards itself with a positive enough word-of-mouth even after the average War 2 box office Day 1 prediction. However, negative reviews will only hamper the film much more badly.
