Bollywood has made big comebacks at the box office in the form of Pathaan, Jawan, Gadar 2, Animal etc but in terms of content, something was missing. Not taking away the merits of these blockbusters, the comeback here refers to the content that was missing. Content here means content that Bollywood used to be known for. Even though Sitaare Zameen Par is a remake of Champions, the film has its own charm. Though I haven’t seen the original film, Sitaare Zameen Par is a fantastic film that ticks most of the boxes when it comes to delivering the perfect family entertainer with a strong message.
The Plot of Sitaare Zameen Par
Gulshan (Aamir Khan) is a basketball coach who has been found guilty of drinking and driving. When taken to court by the police, the judge, looking at Gulshan’s clean records, wants to utilise him for community services instead of jailing him. The court orders Gulshan to coach a team of specially abled children for three months. The film proves that ‘Sabka apna apna normal hai’ and revolves around how Gulshan spends these three months training the kids. There are subplots with a lot of humour and heart melting moments. Despite the runtime, the film does not bore you in any of its frames.

The Strong Performances
The leading star cast of Sitaare Zameen Par has played a huge role in making the film a memorable watch with all the performances. Aamir Khan is phenomenal in his role. The body language, the mannerism and everything else about him as Gulshan is outstanding. The funny moments and the emotional fragments are done well and the background score makes it even more impactful.
Genelia Deshmukh as Suneeta (Gulshan’s Wife) has her own moments and she adds a lot of warmth to the events shown in the film. She has a patented style of arguing on screen and that was something that I missed. Her role is quite well written and she has excelled in her part.
Supporting members of the Sitaare Zameen Par cast like Dolly Alhuwalia, Brijendra Kala and others are fantastic too. The kids are simply awesome and have done a tremendous job. While the film delivers a message that everything is special in its own way, the fact that the kids pulled it off in a feature film is itself commendable.
Direction and other technical aspects
RS Prasanna’s direction is very strong and so is Divy Nidhi Sharma’s writing. The film is engaging and is a non-stop entertainer which means it does not bore you anywhere. The dialogues are well-written and few scenes are really funny without any sort of cringe element. And it is not easy to handle a huge cast including specially abled children
The background score is effective and adds a lot of value to the emotional bits. The cinematography is also excellent. Technically, it’s a sound film where there are no lags at all. Yes, there is some issue with the pacing but that’s negligible as the merits are heavier. The music was surely good but not popular.
