Border 2 Plot – More Like the Plot of Border Remake
Border 2 is set in the year 1971, when the situation of war arose between India and Pakistan. The film begins with Indian Air Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon (Diljit Dosanjh) getting married to Manjit (Sonam Bajwa) in his village in Punjab. His marriage is attended by his close friends, Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya (Varun Dhawan) of the Indian Army and Lt Cdr Mahendra S. Rawat (Ahan Shetty) of the Indian Navy, both officers from different divisions who have been friends since 1961, when they met at the National War Academy.
During the marriage event, the trio is informed that tension at the border is rising, and hence, they need to report to duty immediately. After this, Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya returned to his contingent in the Jammu sector. Meanwhile, Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon returns to his base in Srinagar, and Mahendra S. Rawat boards a warship off the coast of Gujarat. Amid all this, Lt Col Fateh Singh Kaler (Sunny Deol), who was the trio’s trainer in the National War Academy, is currently at the Munawar Tawi region in Jammu.
Against all of them, the challenges are huge, while many of the forces have been transported to East Pakistan. Hence, the Western border is being defended by a smaller number of armed forces. Meanwhile, the Pakistani army has locked its plan to cross the border at Rajasthan, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. What happens next forms the rest of the film.

Border 2 First Half: First Paisa Vasool Film of 2026?
Border 2 is based on the 1971 Indo-Pak war, just like its prequel. Hence, everybody, for once, knows what is going to happen in the film, for which holding their attention is necessary through proper execution. Succeeding in this, Border 2 starts off decently and gets better and better. Overall, the first half of the film is very gripping and packs a lot of substance in the form of emotions, supported by the BGM and dialogues.
As you expect, the first half follows a very predictable template featuring three soldiers who are friends with each other and their personal lives with their respective wives. Their individual story runs simultaneously with Border 2 Sunny Deol’s character’s life story and his relationship with his son, also an army officer.
This predictable plot is made entertaining by director Anurag Singh’s overall execution. Every element that you could expect from a true commercial entertainer is packed in the first half of Border 2. These elements involve loud and hard-hitting dialogues that evoke goosebumps and nationalism, a good number of comical moments, and memorable songs. These elements are what make Border 2’s first half even better than that of Gadar 2.
Border 2 Cast: Thank You, Sunny Deol
The cast of Border 2 consists of a huge ensemble of Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty, Mona Singh, Medha Rana, Sonam Bajwa, and Anya Singh in the leads. Among the many performers in the Border 2 cast, Sunny Deol, being the seasoned actor and action hero that he is, performs the best. As we saw in The Raja Saab recently, we give extra respect to Sunny Deol for playing his age and doing the action scenes without relying on duplicates, face-swapping, or any other such strategies.
In Varun Dhawan new movie, the known comic actor simply cannot get into the character, as his overacting in nearly every scene bugs you. A few scenes featuring him feel emotional, that too due to the good enough work done with the dialogues and the BGM. The pre-release assets constantly gave the internet material to troll him, while Varun Dhawan gives the audience a much bigger opportunity to troll him due to his acting in the whole film.
Besides Varun, even Ahan Shetty needs improvement, but that does not bother you much because he has a fresh and innocent face. One can see that he is a misfit but also understand why, as can be seen from the Border 2 announcement, that it is the second movie of his after his debut in Tadap (2021).
Diljit Dosanjh, as an actor, is known for bringing genuine humour to the film through his expressions and comic timing, which he succeeds in bringing in this war drama too. However, he does not impress much in the serious scenes either due to the limited scope of acting in the aerial action sequences. Overall, he joins Varun Dhawan and Ahan Shetty in the category of misfits.

Border 2 Second Half: Where Things Get Disappointing
The standards of entertainment that Border 2 had set with its first half continue with the beginning of the second half. While you sit on your seats with a popcorn bucket by your side, you enjoy the ample amount of emotional scenes between soldiers that this half is full of, evoking your goosebumps as well as emotions. However, the degradation of the movie that is now about to begin comes as a surprise, with the war scenes along with several boring scenes, when you stop looking at the big screen in front of you and choose to scroll through Instagram reels instead.
Only Time When We Wanted an Indo-Pak War to End
War sequences are meant to be thrilling, and whether it be land, air, or water, Border 2’s action sequences have disappointed everywhere. Due to poor choreography and even poorer VFX, the war sequences do not turn out to be engaging but rather make you wish that you had never seen them. As the climax of the film and the war approaches, Sunny Deol, being the driving face of the movie, takes things entirely on his shoulders with his usual roars and screams to elevate the overall second half. He drives the predictable and usual climax of the film while throwing one bomb after another at the foe.
Please Give Some Time to the VFX
After the Border 2 trailer and teaser, disappointing work from the film’s VFX department was expected. However, to hide this disappointment to an extent, T-Series has not learned from their mistakes and pulled out an Adipurush move from their sleeve, darkening the colour grading of the movie towards the climax. However, the flaws remain flaws. Rather, the team should learn to chop out the scenes with the poor VFX from the movie if they are not capable of making them look good.
The Rushed Pieces and the Climax
As with other components of the second half, Border 2 packs several things into a very limited duration. However, all of it combined to feel rushed as if the team was tired of shooting the film and wanted to get rid of it now. This also includes a climax Border 2 song and small cameos featuring Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Sudesh Berry, and Puneet Issar playing the same characters as they did in Border.
Where is the Face of Evil?
In every movie, there is a leading villain who attracts the most hatred from the leading protagonists as well as the audience, making the public engaged in his defeat. However, in the Border 2 movie cast, there is no fixed leading antagonist from the on-screen Pakistan army, which would have otherwise made the film better.
Border 2’s Future at the Box Office
The advance booking of Border 2 started 4 days before the Border 2 release date. Due to several factors, the pre sale ticket of Border 2 didn’t see a great but still a good one, which further ensured a good opening day collection for the film. There were a lot of external influences in the advance booking for Day 1, and hence, it is not looking so strong. When it was announced, it was expected to touch Rs 100cr on opening, but those expectations dropped with the release of every asset, and now, its actual opening is much smaller. Compared to Gadar 2, its advance bookings were low, but when we talk about the final Border 2 box office report, that’s where this war drama will prevail.
Both Gadar 2 and Border 2 target the same audience and succeed in reaching their hearts. Though Border 2 may not be the best war film ever, the audience it wants to connect with actually connects with it.
In a world where Gadar 2 can be successful, Border 2 will be too, as it is a better film than the former Sunny Deol-led sequel. With the holiday period and the nostalgia, and by hitting the target period, this film will either take a hit verdict or a blockbuster.
Final Verdict: Border 2 is Not a Disappointment
Among the Border 2 star cast, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty cannot match the standards set by their seniors, and that is understandable. However, there was no need to actually make them match it.
Anyway, Border 2, as an upcoming movie, had massive potential due to factors like being the sequel of an almost three-decade-old cult classic, as well as the first high-budget and high-testosterone release of Bollywood in 2026. However, this potential has been ironically downgraded by the poor efforts in the war sequences of this war drama and the poor performances of the leads. Yet, the film is a decent watch and will succeed at the box office.
