The Tragic Tale
Set in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Madras Cafe follows the story of Major Vikram Singh played by Madras Cafe actor John Abraham. In the first half of the movie, he is serving as an Indian army special officer for R&AW and is stationed in Jaffna, Sri Lanka to undertake several covert operations. The main mission is to defeat the fictional representation of the LTTE, LTF rebels during the Sri Lankan civil war. However, Vikram slowly but surely begins to realize that there is a bigger scheme at play. Political deception, the role of national security, civil war, and personal sacrifice from the other end of the spectrum are just some themes that make this plot multidimensional.
The Starry Madras Cafe Movie Cast
Cast of Madras Cafe has been highly praised by what they have brought to the audience. Both the film and John Abraham’s acting are commendable. He plays Major Vikram Singh overcome with emotions transitioning from a loyal army officer to a man suffering from a moral injury. His performance was so stunning that even the Madras Cafe movie trailer blew up all because of John!
In the movie, Nargis Fakhri plays Jaya Sahni, a British war correspondent who helps Vikram in uncovering the truth. Although Fakhri’s character speaks primarily in English because she is a foreign journalist, her role does not detract from the story. In her Hindi film debut, Raashii Khanna plays Ruby Singh, Vikram’s wife, who provides emotional depth to the story. Other notable cast members, including Prakash Belawadi as Bala and Siddhartha Basu as Robin Dutt, and RD as the R&AW chief, add credibility to the film with their impressive performances.
