April was a decent month for the moviegoing audience with Sunny Deol’s Jaat and Akshay Kumar’s Kesari Chapter 2 doing respectable business at the box office and positively received in their reviews too. With the onset of May, Jaat has finished its run while Kesari 2 continues running in theaters in hopes of a better lifetime total. Besides holdover releases like these, the month of May brings several more exciting releases as well.
While Ajay Devgn’s thrilling sequel Raid 2 along with Sanjay Dutt’s horror-comedy The Bhootnii have already released in the theaters, let’s take a look at the biggest movies this month along with how much hype they carry among the neutral audiences. 

6. Kapkapiii 

Riding on the hype of horror-comedy films in India is Kapkapiii, the official remake of the Malayalam film Romancham. Among the Upcoming Indian Movies Releasing in May 2025, this film is set to release on 23 May 2025. It featured a talented ensemble cast led by Shreyas Talpade, Tusshar Kapoor, and Riddhi Idnani in pivotal roles. 

5. Suswagatam Khushamadeed

Suswagatam Khushamadeed is an upcoming typical Bollywood romantic comedy led by Pulkit Samrat and Katrina Kaif’s sister, Isabelle Kaif making her debut as the female lead. Directed by Dhiraj Kumar, the film has been ready since 2021 but faced multiple delays before finally locking in a release date of May 16th, 2025. It carries a BMS interest of just 154. The trailer as well as a song have been released from the film which failed to generate any considerable hype.

4. Kesari Veer

Kesari Veer is a historical drama set in the 14th century, based on the tale of Hamirji Gohil, a legendary warrior remembered for his battle against the Tughlaq Empire. One of the biggest budgeted movies among the Upcoming Movies in May, it features Sooraj Pancholi, Suniel Shetty and Vivek Oberoi in its leading star cast.. Despite its epic subject and star-studded cast, the buzz around Kesari Veer remains low. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on May 16th, 2025.

3. Bhool Chuk Maaf

After the mega success of Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, and Akshaye Khanna starrer Chhaava, Maddock Films is back with a light-hearted romantic comedy entertainer Bhool Chuk Maaf. With this mid-budget entertainer, the team of Bhool Chuk Maaf promises the concept of time-loop blended in an Indian middle-class family drama. Directed by Karan Sharma, the film stars Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi in the lead as their first ever on-screen collaboration. The trailer got a decent response from the audience. Since the film is only 4 days away from its release, the buzz is lukewarm, and has 46.1k interest on the popular ticket-booking site Book My Show.

2. The Bhootnii

Sanjay Dutt’s latest horror-comedy The Bhootnii has been released on May 1st, going against Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 in a theatrical clash. Also starring Mouni Roy, Sunny Singh, and Palak Tiwari, this horror comedy has failed miserably at the ticket window. This Siddhant Sachdev directorial earned 3.49 crores in its extended four-day weekend. With the same trend continuing ahead, The Bhootnii is likely to wrap up its theatrical run this week itself.

1. Raid 2 

Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, Vaani Kapoor, and Saurabh Shukla starrer crime thriller Raid 2 is the sequel to 2018’s release Raid. Just like the original, the sequel is also directed by Raj Kumar Gupta. In the sequel, Ajay Devgn is seen reprising his role as IRS Officer Amar Patnaik. While in the original Ajay Devgn was seen going up against Saurabh Shukla, his character in the sequel fights against Riteish Deshmukh playing  Dada Manohar Bhai. While it hit the theaters carrying the expectations of one of the Best Movie Releases in recent times by Bollywood, the thriller opened with a mixed response from the audience. Its 4 days collection stands at a total of Rs 70 crores India nett.
