JioHotstar’s Special Ops Popular Web Series in 2025’s Action Hit Review

Performances: While the performance of every character is praiseworthy in the Special Ops web series, the star performer has to be Himmat Singh. He is poised and commanding. The director has portrayed him as an intelligent and morally complex character, making him the backbone of the narrative. 

Writing and direction: The director Neeraj Pandey, known for his special movies—A Wednesday, Special 26, and Baby—wins the heart of the audience with the Special Ops web series. The direction is full of suspense, realism, and spine-chilling drama. The screenplay covers twenty years, juggling between the past and the present. One of the most commendable parts of the show is that it never loses coherence. With its crisp dialogue delivery, we understand how the characters handle the espionage troops with authenticity without sugarcoating real facts. However, in some scenes, the pacing becomes inconsistent when the subplots feel lesser dealt with. 

Cinematography: With sleek visuals traversing countries like Turkey, Jordan, the UAE, and India, shifting international locations, Himmat Singh and his team race against time to get hold of the elusive terrorist known as Ikhlaq Khan.

Music and Sound Design: Advait Nemlekar, with his background music, enhances the suspense and tension that the audience can feel in the web series. What’s more? The title track is subtle yet impactful. 

Spin-off: Special Ops 1.5 (2021)

Did you know after Special Ops, a mini-series was also released? 

Due to the success of the main series, a mini-series, Special Ops 1.5: The Himmat Story, was released. It delves into the backstory of Himmat Singh and his evolution into a spymaster. While shorter and less intense, it added depth to the protagonist and was positively received.
