Rishab Shetty was born on 7 July 1983 in Keradi village, Kundapura Taluk, Udupi district, Karnataka. His real name is Prashanth Shetty. His father Y. Bhaskar Shetty is an astrologer while his mother Lakshmi Shetty is a homemaker. He completed B.Com at Vijaya College, Bengaluru and later earned a diploma in film direction from the Government Film and TV Institute, Bangalore.
Before entering films he worked several jobs including selling water cans and real estate. He joined Kannada cinema as a clap boy and assistant director on Cyanide (2006), where he met Rakshit Shetty and later collaborated on several acclaimed films.
Rishab married Pragathi Shetty on 9 February 2017. The couple has two children, Ranvit and Raadya. Pragathi also worked as costume designer on both Kantara films.
